We support different formats (NPZ, HDF5) for xtensor types (used for the data part of xvariable), you can have a look at https://github.com/QuantStack/xtensor-io.

For xframe, we plan to support NetCDF and ApacheArrow format.

We are opened to any contribution for other supporting other format / technology.
